Concrete Canoe Regatta
Concrete canoe racing origins in the US and began in Germany in 1986, when the first competition was held at Limburg an der Lahn. From then on, it was organized by the German Cement Association (VDZ) every two years and continues to be one of the biggest events in the concrete industry and faculties across Europe.
The concrete canoe teams of the different universities and colleges are facing a difficult challenge. How do we build a canoe out of concrete that swims? Isn't concrete way to heavy? The opposite is the case: research and teamwork has shown that it's possible to build concrete canoes, that are as light as 16kg! Even the diameter of the wall structures can be as thin as 2mm. Now, that is called science!
Award-winning teams have to show their expertise in a broad variety of skills, not only in their field. Sportsmannship, creative concepts, sustainability and even the Regattashirts are being prized in the event. The 18. German Concrete Canoe Regatta will take place in Brandenburg an der Havel on the 10th and 11th June 2022
